God Knows You
What is God's desire for us to do about loneliness?
How to Overcome Loneliness by Spending Time Alone with God
Because you are never alone with God, building a stronger relationship with him might help you deal better when you feel alone. You can refocus on God and become more dependent on Him by praying, journaling, reading the Bible, or even just spending time in silence with Him.
Lovely Bible Verse for Loneliness
God sees you, dear believer; rejoice! Because El Roi is a God of seeing, in the words of Hagar, he is aware of all you are experiencing. Indeed, I have seen Him here who keeps watch over me (Genesis 16:13).
Claim that promise, and “cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
Introduction
Her mistress had mistreated her. Although she had not wanted to comply with the request, she had little choice because she was a slave with no rights or voice. She finally escaped out of desperation since she couldn't handle the pain and violence any longer, but she soon discovered herself alone and helpless without a place to stay or food. And not a little pregnant.
It would be an understatement to say she felt afraid, alone, and unwanted. In her desperation, she questioned whether anyone cared about her, what was happening to her, or her unborn child.
In Genesis 16:1–13, Hagar's narrative is told.
Can you identify with her? Perhaps not to her predicament, but to the feelings of fear, loneliness, and unloveliness she went through? Perhaps your husband has deserted you and your kids. You might have lost your home or your job. It's possible that as a child, your parents mistreated or neglected you. Perhaps despite your hard effort, your boss fails to notice you. You might have been injured or betrayed by a friend.
Perhaps you've asked yourself the same question as Hagar did when she was left in the desert by herself: "Does anyone care about me? Do you understand what I'm going through? Maybe you've even questioned whether God is concerned and screamed out, "Do you see what I'm going through, God, and how bad it is?"
Yes, he does, as it was for Hagar in response to all of these heartbreaking queries. God sees you, just like Hagar did.
God Sees You
You may have questioned whether God even recognizes your existence among the billions of humans who inhabit this planet. Could he have picked you out specifically, or is it merely that no one has ever heard of you before?
Be assured that God sees you! He is aware of you as an individual!
(Matthew 10:30) He is aware of every hair on your head. Think about how much more valuable you are than the numerous sparrows in the sky (Luke 12:7). And remember that He took a personal interest in creating you, that you are "fearfully and wonderfully made," and that all of His "works" are wonderful, including you (Psalm 139:13–14).
He cares about you so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to a cruel death in your place in order to atone for your sins and bring you back into right relationship with Him (John 3:16; Romans 5:8).
Take into account the fact that you are his "workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10).
That is how well God knows you. Furthermore, He not only recognizes you but also recognizes your name.
God Knows Your Name
One of the things that struck me about this brief paragraph is that Hagar was always referred to as "my slave" or "your slave" whenever Sarah or Abraham brought her up in discussion (Genesis 16:2, 5, 6). This leads me to believe that they saw her as nothing more than a tool for their own personal gain—to pervert God's plan to create an heir.
How disheartening that must have been for Hagar, I can only imagine.
But the moment God discovered Hagar by the well, He said, "Hagar" (16:8).
God cared enough to treat Hagar well when no one else was willing to. We don't even know at this point in the story if Hagar knew who God was, but He knew who she was. He actually knew her name, and by using it, he respected her.
The same applies to you. You are known to God. He knows the names of each and every "sheep" as His priceless child (John 10:3). Your name is also "engraved" on the palm of his hand, in addition to being known (Isaiah 49:16). Being etched has a more significant meaning than being written. Being engraved implies permanency and something that cannot be removed because it is "cut, carved" into God's palm.
Your name is immortalized forever because it is recorded in The Book of Life if you are in Christ—if you have believed in His name and received the free gift of grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8–9). Your wonderful name is now eternal as a born-again Christian!
El Roi, the God Who Sees, is the name that Hagar offers to God later in the story as an act of thanks (Genesis 16:13). It's interesting to note that Hagar is the only male or female, Jew or Gentile, to address God by name in the Bible.
God Sees Your Situation
El Roi is aware of your situation. He is not surprised by your predicament, even though it may have surprised you. Being omniscient (all knowing), He is aware of every aspect of your life, both good and negative, at all times. He is constantly aware of your circumstance and your mere existence. His divine attention is on everything.
"Jesus totally knows us... He is familiar with every inch of us. He is familiar with us more intimately than we are. And He is also intimately familiar with sorrow... He comes to us when we are dejected and showers us with grace.
God Sees Your Need
God calmed Hagar's concerns and provided comfort for her hurt, worn-out heart in his role as "the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort" (Psalm 147:3).
God also guarantees that He would "never leave you nor forsake you" (Deuteronomy 31:6), just as He did with Hagar. El Roi showers His love and mercy upon you when you are at your most in need (Hebrews 4:14–16).
When necessary, he will also take care of your physical needs.
Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about what you will put on your body. Isn't there more to life than food, and to the body than clothes? The heavenly Father feeds the birds of the air despite the fact that they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns. (Matthew 6:25–34) Are you not more valuable than they are?
God sees you, dear believer; rejoice! Because El Roi is a God of seeing, in the words of Hagar, he is aware of all you are experiencing. Indeed, I have seen Him here who keeps watch over me (Genesis 16:13).
Cast all of your worries on Him because He cares for you, as promised in 1 Peter 5:7.
